Mrs. Helmers - NES Principal
Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Denise Helmers. I am very excited to be the new principal at Neoga Elementary School. I was fortunate to spend some time with Mrs. Smith before she retired. She has shared wonderful things with me about the students, families, and staff here at NES.
A little bit about myself. I began my career as a special education teacher for students with learning disabilities. Over the years I have worked in self contained classrooms and resource rooms, suburban and rural districts with students who ranged in age from 8-12. The opportunity to build relationships with my colleagues and the families of my students have led to my passion of working in small rural districts. I have been a principal for nine years. In the fall of 2016 I had the opportunity to work as a principal at a private school in China to support the implementation of their English program. It was a great experience. However, I am really looking forward to working in a public school setting here in Neoga. I have been married for over 30 years. My wonderful and supportive husband, Pat, and I are the proud parents of 4 boys, 2 daughter-in laws, and 4 grand-dogs.
One of the many things that attracted me to Neoga was their mission statement. I believe that the foundation for learning starts in the elementary school. I believe students enter school eager and excited to learn. I believe as educators we lay the foundation for our students’ future success in school and life. I look forward to supporting the work that has been started at NES to ensure a positive and safe learning environment which supports and encourages students to grow academically and emotionally.
I look forward to meeting you soon and having a great year with the Neoga Learning Community!
