Al Capone Does my Shirts
In Mrs. Fearday’s 7th grade English class, we have been reading the book Al Capone Does my Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko. In this book Matthew(Moose) Flanagan and his family move to Alcatraz Island because his dad gets a job as a guard and a electrician for the island. The warden’s daughter, Piper, is very sneaky and seems to get the other kids on the island in trouble with her shenanigans. We can’t wait to see where Piper leads the class to next. Before starting the novel, the class completed a webquest dealing with Alcatraz and the author to build prior knowledge on this subject. We asked a few students what they have learned about Alcatraz. “Alcatraz is an island that is surrounded by shark infested waters, and it is a prison in California for the worst criminals in the United States,” said Eli Rentfro. “Some famous criminals that were prisoners at Alcatraz Island were Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly, Frank Morris, John and Clarence Anglin. It has a lot of interesting facts in the book,” said Devonn Kingery. Mrs. Fearday stated that she has never read this book but has a fascination with Alcatraz Island so she couldn't wait to read it with her class. She even is going to visit Alcatraz with her daughter Emma this summer.
